core studies ...social studies

The Lansdowne High School Social Studies Department strives to prepare students for their lives in the 21st century. Our courses are designed to give students a basic foundation in American Government in the 9th grade, World History in the 10th grade, United States History in the 11th grade, and, finally, Economics in the 12th grade. In addition to these required courses, the Social Studies Department offers a variety of Elective courses including: Sports as History, Film as History, Psychology, AP Psychology, Facing History as Ourselves, Military History, and Juvenile Justice.

Our courses help students to understand the historical, cultural, and technological evolution of our country and to value the democratic ideals upon which it was founded. Students can also come to understand how our nation has been influenced by world events as well as how we have influenced world events. We also strive to develop critical thinkers and effective communicators who will become informed citizens participating in the democratic process.
