Principal's Message
Greetings Vikings
The second half of the school year is in full swing and June will be here before we know it. Students have already picked their classes for the 2017-18 school year, but we still maintain our focus on Quarter 3 and 4 in order to finish strong.
Assessments are a critical part of our students’ education and they are requirements for graduation. In January, the HSA’s are offered again to those students that need to re-test based on their scores from last year. The 11th graders will take the SAT on April 5th. May is a busy month, as we prepare for the AP exams. Those students that are in English 10 and Algebra 1 will be taking the PARCC, and the Biology and American Government students will be taking the HSA’s.
Students in grades 9 and 10 are preparing themselves for the next steps after high school, by engaging in the many opportunities Lansdowne has to offer. Students have a variety of upper level rigorous courses to select, as well as the different completer programs to serve as their graduation requirement. We also offer many elective courses that dive into the arts and other academic topics.
This year’s 11th graders are encourage to schedule a co-enrollment class with CCBC or take part in an internship or job opportunity during their senior year. Our staff and guidance team can help guide you in these decisions. The SAT and Jr. Prom is fast approaching and soon they will be entering their final year of high school.
The 4th Quarter ends for seniors on May 26th. This is also the date of the senior prom. Finals are scheduled the week prior and the Senior May Calendar has been distributed and posted to make sure everyone knows the dates of these important events. Graduation is on June 2nd at 10 am. It will be held at UMBC. Tickets will be distributed during the mandatory rehearsal.
We are extremely proud of our student-athletes. They not only amaze us through their athletic talents but demonstrate VIKING Pride through their sportsmanship. Winter sports are coming to an end and Spring sports are planning for an exciting season. Students must maintain a GPA of a 2.0 to participate in any sport. Make sure you turn in your paperwork on time.
Check out what is happening this week by clicking on the “UPCOMING EVENTS” link. Please help us maintain your child’s academic progress throughout the rest of the school year. Routinely check your child’s academic status through the BCPSONE account. I would like to wish everyone a successful school year.
